Cottonwood Forest Establishment along the Green and Yampa River

The goal of this project is to substantially increase the National Park Serviceâ¿¿s understanding of how changes in river flow regime and sediment availability and transport have affected cottonwood forests along the Green River in Canyonlands National Park (Canyonlands), and the Green

and Yampa rives in Dinosaur National Monument (Dinosaur).

By better understanding past conditions of flow and flood plain formation under which extensive cottonwood forests were produced, park management will be better able to articulate land and water management actions that are likely to enhance future recruitment of riparian cottonwood forests and related ecosystem values at these Parks and throughout the Colorado River basin.
