Inform and Redirect Visitors During Redwood Renewal Projects

Not a Request for applications.

This is a Notice of Intent to Award under a current Cooperative Agreement.

This project will provide three Public Information Contacts (PICs) to communicate with and help reroute visitors during a series of construction projects at Muir Woods National Monument.

From

2019 through 2022, NPS will be implementing the so-called Redwood Renewal projects, which is a set of deferred-maintenance infrastructure and visitor access projects as well as resource enhancements.

The park will remain open to the annual 1 million visitors throughout the construction, but numerous trails, bridges, the entrance plaza and parking lots will be closed intermittently throughout this period.

The PIC's will work for 5. 5 months per year for each of the four years (2019 to 2022) of construction.

The Public Information Contacts (PIC's) help redirect visitors, inform them about work underway, and engage them in interpretation of the resource benefits.

The PIC¿s will print new maps as needed, change trail closure signs and converse with visitors throughout each day.

The goal is to provide a high quality visitor experience despite trail re-routes, noise, and visible construction activity in the prime visitor area.

The "Redwood Renewal Projects" include new water and sewer lines, modification/improvements to all 5 parking lots and the entrance plaza to function better with the new reservation system, replacement of 4 aging pedestrian bridges, replacement of the entrance boardwalk, three new trail routes for sections of the main trail, and a creek restoration project to remove rock riprap from creek banks and improve salmon habitat.

This project also includes preparation of communication materials, signs, and on-line information to inform visitors both before and during their visit to Muir Woods.
