The U.S Small Business Administration supports both the Small Business Development Center Program and SCORE to provide management assistance to current and prospective small business owners. These programs offer one-stop assistance to individuals and small businesses by providing a wide variety of information and guidance in central and easily accessible branch locations.

While the federal government does not provide grants for starting or growing small businesses, it does provide a myriad of services to assist entrepreneurs in pursuit of their dreams. One of the mechanisms in place to promote small business growth and economic development are Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs).

Alabama Housing Finance Authority

The Alabama Housing Finance Authority, more commonly referred to as AHFA, is a public corporation which was established in the year 1980 under the Act No. 80-585 of the Alabama Legislature.



Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship Program

In keeping with this mission, the Health Resources and Services Administration has recently constituted the Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship Program wherein it aims to increase the number of primary care providers through the provision of training programs to nurses who are pursuing advanced degrees primary care nurse practitioners (NP) or nurse-midwives.



The Neighbourhood Midwives, the brainchild of Annie Francis of Hampshire, offers midwifery services geared for the continuity of care to women and their families.
