The National Park Service, within the Department of the Interior has announced funding in the amount of $448,111 to support the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.

NCPTT was founded in 1994 on the campus of Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The genesis of NCPTT began in September 1986 when the US Congress’ Office of Technology Assessment published Technologies for Prehistoric & Historic Preservation. The assessment cited the critical need to establish a federally funded institution “as a mechanism to coordinate research, disseminate information, and provide training about new technologies for preservation.”

One of the strategies for implementing the OTA report findings was the recommendation to establish a “Federal Center for Preservation Technology” within the Department of the Interior.

The Bureau of Reclamation, within the Department of the Interior has announced funding in the amount of $1,126,445 to support the Battle Creek Salmon and Steelhead Restoration Project.

The construction of the fish screens and ladders at two sites on the North Fork of Battle Creek (Eagle Canyon and North Battle Creek Feeder diversion dams) is essentially complete; however, a number of items/features did not work out as planned and changes/additions are needed.

The Bureau of Reclamation, within the Department of the Interior has announced funding in the amount of $333,698 to support the South Fork Boise River Hydrodynamic Modeling Project.

Bull trout are known to use the SFBR for overwintering and rearing. The project’s objective is to better understand the migratory habits of the bull trout. The Bureau will enter into a Cooperative Agreement with University of Idaho to assist in the development of hydrologic flow models and a temperature model.

Wetlands of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

The Bureau of Reclamation, within the Department of the Interior has announced funding in the amount of $79,150 to support the Brook Trout Suppression in the Upper Malheur River.

In 2011, Reclamation funded an initial project with Burns Paiute Tribe to develop the use of environmental DNA sampling as a surrogate tool in comparison to more time consuming and/or invasive sampling techniques. This funding allows for continuation of that sampling.
