The Whitaker Farms received a $318,000 worth of state grant from the Broome County Soil and Water Conservation for a new silage storage area, and for the protection of the environment.


According to Broome County Soil and Water Conservation District executive director Charles McElwee, the runoff that comes off the silage storage areas have a lot of phosphorus and nitrogen that can damage the stream and the landscape.
