Bridging Cultures at Community Colleges

The National Endowment for the Humanities is soliciting proposals for a cooperative agreement to develop and administer a nationwide project to advance the role of the humanities at community colleges through curriculum and faculty development focused on the theme of Bridging Cultures.

This agency-wide initiative encourages exploration of the ways in which cultures from around the globe, as well as the myriad subcultures within America\’s borders, have influenced American society.

The initiative is designed to explore ways to strengthen the role of humanities instruction at community colleges recognizing the fact that many students\’ only serious study of the humanities takes place in two-year college classrooms.

Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Grants

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is offering $100,000 matching grants to eligible organizations to develop, expand or maintain low income tax clinics.

The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic grant program is administered by the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate at the Internal Revenue Service. The program is led by the National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson.

The LITC program funds organizations that serve low income individuals who have a tax controversy with the IRS and/or that provide outreach and education to taxpayers who speak English as a second language (ESL).

DoD Multiple Sclerosis Concept Award

The Army does more than simply defend our nation from foreign and military threats.

The Department of Defense is providing $840,000 to support high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation in studying Multiple Sclerosis. Innovative research may introduce a new approach, challenge existing approaches, look at existing problems from new perspectives, or exhibit other uniquely creative qualities.

The grant is part of the Military Medical Research and Development Program which endeavors to reduce illness and injury among U.S. military personnel on the battlefield through basic and applied medical research executed largely through grants and contracts with civilian educational and research institutions.

DoD Multiple Sclerosis Concept Award

NAWCA U.S. Standard Grants

The Fish and Wildlife Service has announced $40 million in funds available for the U.S. Standard Grants program.

The program is a competitive, matching grants program that supports public-private partnerships carrying out projects around the nation that further the goals of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act.

The program supports projects that focus on long-term protection, restoration, enhancement and/or establishment of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

The Fish and Wildlife Service is an Office of the Department of the Interior.

Afghanistan Agricultural Extension Project

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture is making $14 million in government grants available to assist Afghanistan\’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in their endeavor to deliver more effective, demand-driven extension services to producers and other rural clientele in selected areas of Afghanistan.

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture is an office of the Department of Agriculture and is offering this grant in conjunction with the Foreign Agricultural Service. Eligible U.S. land-grant Universities are encouraged to apply.

Immunization Strengthening through Measles Control and Related Childhood Morbidity/Mortality Reduction from Vaccine Preventable Diseases

The Department of Health and Human Services is providing support to the United Nations Foundation for global measles control.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is allocating $100,000,000 to reduce mortality by provision of bundled (vaccine and supplies required to ensure safe injections and safe disposal of vaccine vials and injection materials) measles that contains vaccine, technical, laboratory, programmatic consultants.

The support will allow the purchase of vaccine that contains antigens for measles and rubella and follows immunization policies of countries in need of this support.

Eligibility is limited to the United Nations Foundation (UNF) because it is the most appropriate and qualified agency to conduct the activities under this cooperative agreement.

New Technology for Proteomics and Glycomics

Department of Health and Human Services offers funding for development of research tools for technical challenges in proteomics and glycomics. The funding opportunity is through the Small Business Innovation Research grant program to encourage small business growth and participation in this area.

Proteomics is the large-scale study of proteins, particularly their structures and functions. Glycomics is the comprehensive study of glycomes – the entire complement of sugars, whether free or present in more complex molecules, of an organism – including genetic, physiologic, pathologic, and other aspects.

This funding announcement is not restricted for robotics, sample preparation, analytical separations, improved informatics technologies.Technologies that constructs using glycomics may be also applicable.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the auspices of the Department of Human Services is making $900,000,000 available to create healthier communities.

It seeks to accomplish this through by building capacity to implement broad evidence and practice-based policy, environmental, programmatic and infrastructure changes, as appropriate, in large counties, and in states, tribes and territories, including in rural and frontier areas.

In addition the funding will support implementation of the identified interventions that align with the Healthy Family 2020 focus areas.
