Established in 1989, WomenVenture, a certified Community Development Financial Institution serves low-income individuals and women in the 15 county greater Twin Cities metropolitan area. WomenVenture offers low income women a variety of loan products, business development and employment training programs. Its loan funds are targeted to new and expanding businesses.

CDFI Awards for WomenVenture


FA (2008) - $585,406

WomenVenture is a certified CDFI established in 1983 WomenVenture provides microenterprise loans and development services to high-risk, low-income women entrepreneurs in and around Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota WomenVenture will use the 2008 Technical Assistance grant of $88,228 to 1) pay staff salary and benefits; 2) send staff to conferences and professional training sessions; 3) and obtain software WomenVenture will use the 2008 Financial Assistance award of $497,178 to increase its lending capital and to continue providing micro-enterprise products.



FA (2007) - $61,293

WomenVenture, established in 1989, is a certified CDFI community development corporation. It provides a wide range of economic, business training and micro-loan services to low-income women and communities. WomenVenture will use its FY07 TA award to: 1) support personnel and hire new staff; 2) pay for staff training in financial analysis and franchise training; 3) update its training curriculum; 4) purchase computers equipment; 5) travel to client sites, financing meetings and local training; and 6) purchase a portable LCD projector to facilitate training and increase client learning.



TA (2005) - $64,600

The 2005 CDFI Fund award of $64,600 will help WomenVenture: 1) purchase client management database and loan fund management software, 2) hire consultants to conduct a client database analysis, 3) improve loan fund management and impact and 4) provide additional staff training and development.

FA (2005) - $200,000

The awardee expects to utilize its financial assistance award of $200,000 to provide direct business loan lending activities to women business owners that did not qualify for traditional small bank loan products and support business investment in Individual Development Accounts (IDAs).

The Program for Investment in Micro-Entrepreneurs Technical Assistance Program is designed to decrease the number of disadvantaged micro-entrepreneurs by helping them enhance their management capabilities, by way of providing them with technical assistance and training in the areas concerning activities that are associated with starting, expanding and growing their businesses.




Meticulon, a project of Autism Calgary Association in partnership with the federal government and the Sinneave Family Foundation, operates as a social enterprise that renders high-tech services provided by people with autism, leveraging their natural abilities at requiring attention to detail, repetition, and sequencing.
